Spring Fever: 15 Activities for Every Interest in Colorado

Spring Fever: 15 Activities for Every Interest in Colorado

From farmers markets to baseball games, spring in Denver allows us to embrace rejuvenation, adventure and community

March 1, 2024 - The Schossow Group

As Denver shakes off the winter chill, residents eagerly anticipate the delightful transition in weather, marked by warmer temperatures and longer, sun-kissed days. While we do still get snow throughout the springtime, it often melts away as quickly as it comes and outdoor spaces come alive with the vibrant hues of cherry blossoms, tulips, and freshly sprouted green grass. Beloved hiking trails (see our area favorites) reawaken, and a collective sense of lightness permeates the spirit of Coloradans. Spring fosters a strong community bond, as locals engage in festivals, farmers markets, and a variety of outdoor events.

Here are 15 of our team’s favorite spring activities (for indoor and outdoor fun) in and around Denver:

1. Visit the Denver Botanic Gardens

Visit the Denver Botanic Gardens to witness the vibrant spring blooms and attend special events and workshops. Denver Botanic Gardens aims to captivate and bring joy while disseminating the shared knowledge of the Gardens through outreach, collaboration, and education.
Two locations, 1007 York Street in Denver and 8500 W Deer Creek Canyon Road in Littleton. Open 9am - 4 pm daily.

2. Enjoy a Round of Golf

Stretching from the expansive plains east of Denver to the snow-capped peaks in the west, Colorado boasts an exceptional landscape that lends itself to breathtaking golf courses. With over 200 public and resort courses (our favorite being The Club at Ravenna) in the state golf enthusiasts are spoiled for choice. Explore some of the finest accessible public and resort golf courses near Denver year around but especially in spring.

Spring Activities in Denver: Red Rocks Amphitheater

3. Take in a Red Rocks Concert

A transformative experience for many during the Colorado spring/summer is attending a concert at Red Rocks. The allure of Red Rocks transcends the performer – witnessing any artist on this stage becomes a memorable experience. From The Beatles, Sonny & Cher, the Carpenters, Carole King, Depeche Mode, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, the Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Phish, Neil Young, Kenny Chesney and Florence + The Machine - the list and rich history goes on and on, representing every genre and decade. If concerts are not for you, perhaps a movie or yoga at Red Rocks is more your speed - they do that too.
Located at 18300 West Alameda Parkway. Schedules and events vary.

4. Civic Center EATS Food Truck Festival

Treat your taste buds to a culinary adventure at Civic Center EATS, Denver's largest gathering of food trucks that brings a variety of Denver’s best mobile restaurants together for lunch throughout the summer. Held in Civic Center Park annually, this weekly festival offers a wide array of gourmet eats in a vibrant outdoor setting. In 2024, the fun (and food) begins on May 8th.

6. Take a Tour or Ride at the Colorado Railroad Museum

For six and a half decades, the Colorado Railroad Museum has dedicated itself to the preservation and dissemination of locomotives, railroad cars, and the rich history of railroads on its expansive 15-acre site. Through engaging events like THE POLAR EXPRESS™, Day Out With Thomas™, weekend train rides, and occasional steam-ups showcasing operational steam locomotives, the Museum continues to captivate new generations with the excitement of railroading. With a variety of tours and rides there is something for everyone!

7. Explore the Denver Dining Scene and Denver Restaurant Week

No matter the time of year, the Greater Denver area features a growing and eclectic dining scene which is often ranked as one of the best in the United States. We've previously highlighted some of our favorite local date spots featuring food and locally-brewed beer and as the sunshine comes, the patio scene around Denver comes to live as well. The annual Denver Restaurant Week is also a staple of this time of year, and 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the event which runs from March 1st-10th and features over 200 local restaurants featuring special menus. Should you miss it, the list of restaurants still serves as a great guide of unique Denver-area favorites to check out for your next brunch, lunch or dinner.

Ziplining stands out as one of the best and most popular activities during this season. Two great spots include AVA's Cliffside Zipline course and The EDGE Ziplines. Book AVA's Ziplining Adventure is located just 30 minutes west of Denver, offering stunning views as the surrounding mountains come alive with color after the snowfall. One of our favorite spots, Q's Pub and Grille in Littleton has been serving food, music and fun for three decades and has annual celebrations - some of the biggest in the state - each year on March 17th.

12. Get a Taste of Colorado at Outdoor Farmers Markets

Explore outdoor markets like the Denver Union Station Farmers Market or the Cherry Creek Fresh Market, where you can find fresh produce, flowers, and artisanal goods. Shopping at Colorado farmers markets not only allows you to savor the freshest local produce but also supports the community by fostering a direct connection between consumers and farmers. Additionally, it promotes sustainable agriculture practices, reduces carbon footprints associated with transportation, and provides an opportunity to discover unique, artisanal products.
